Châtel

Architecture in the Abondance Valley.

Climbing the mountain steadily on the road from Thonon you have a series of charming views as you approach Abondance Valley...

The carved balconies on the farms are typical of this valley where the living is good...you can sense the farms have been there for many a long year, some of them for well over a century.
They have withstood harsh winters and seen hard-working summers; the farmers here are fully occupied all summer long...

On arriving at the end of the valley, just before you reach the Swiss border, you come upon Châtel nestling in a valley in the middle mountains, a delightful blend of attractive houses, mountain pastures and forest...
Looking at Châtel, you can see it is peaceful...The mountain traditions have been respected. The chalets have been built in a style that blends beautifully with the traditional architecture.
There are no large buildings, only small houses and chalets that fit perfectly into the scenery.
So as not to spoil this idyllic view we have even buried our telephone and electricity supply cables. The environment is all-important to us in Châtel!

Everything else is also on a warm, human scale...like the sense of hospitality that makes Châtel a resort where the key words are “old-world charm” and “friendly welcome”.
